Family man, assisting foreman and mentor Jos van der Wijst: 'Every project is different at Orangeworks.'
Jos enjoys working at Orangeworks for over 12,5 years now. Jos: “One of my biggest drivers is the variety in activities involved in the daily work. Because we make customized solutions for our customers, no project is the same. ” In the spring of 2006, Jos started a new chapter in his life. After he had to close his own company due to a difficult market, he took a next step in his career at Orangeworks. The years have flown by and during this time Jos has also, in addition to his work as assisting foreman, guided several colleagues during their training as a craftsman.
From own boss to employment
Jos has owned and operated his own company for 10 years in machining and welding aluminum. Jos says: “The reason for starting my own business was simple; I wanted to be close to my family to see my daughter and son grow up and this was possible with my own business from the comfort of my own home. This of course did not mean that I did not have to work hard. In addition to my work, for example, I also had to ensure work from new customers kept coming in.” After 10 successful years there was less and less demand because a lot of work was outsourced abroad. Jos unfortunately had to close his business because of this.
A small detour brought him to Orangeworks
Jos was able to almost immediately start working for a company that produced heat exchangers. “It wasn't long before I realized that this was not the right place for me. The work was very repetitive, and I knew that I could not stay motivated for long and that I had to look further " according to Jos. And that is how Jos ended up at Orangeworks. "We are really happy with Jos," said Wiely Brouwers, quality coordinator and former workshop manager. Thanks to Jos' broad experience, he is often the mentor of new employees. “Jos is calm and can give clear and plain explanations. I can always rely on Jos when it comes to guiding inexperienced, new employees. That is why it was only logical to appoint Jos as a cooperating foreman when we expanded with an additional production hall across the street in 2012.”
No two days are the same
Marcel Koper, production manager, says: “We make beautiful and often unusual, one-off equipment. What makes Orangeworks special? It is our high quality level. There are different grades within welding work and we only work in the high segment. It is never boring, and no working-day is the same. Working together and creating installations while ensuring that everything is build first time right. After all, you want your colleagues to continue with the project where you left off without any problems. "
Appropriate pride
Jos: “A project I regularly refer to is the project in Hagenau, France. Together with 5 colleagues, we were able to install a new platform in 1 week, while production had to continue unhindered. ” When Jos tells about this experience, you can see the sparkle in his eyes. "That is also what I often hear and see among our other employees," said Cindy Hendriks, HR officer. “Our employees love working on a project from start to finish. When it is finished, with an eye for planning and quality, you can recognize the proud feeling.”
